It’s Friday! It’s summer! You want a drink recipe for the weekend, I know it.
Hot toddies are totally a thing in the winter, right? Then let’s re-think it for summer. This summertime toddy is like a snow cone with booze. What’s not to like? And it couldn’t be more simple. Tea granita meets whiskey.
Start with the tea. Just like with a hot toddy, you want something that will stand up to the whiskey. I used Stash’s Lemon Ginger. The ginger and lemon work together for a really bold tea. And you want this tea strong.
Now take down that bottle of good whiskey you’ve been saving, this was made for it.
4 tea bags, any bold fruit tea will do
Sweetener – sugar or honey
Heat three cups of water just barely to boiling. Add and steep the tea for about five minutes. Sweeten to taste (the vanilla sugar jar makes another appearance).
Freeze in a shallow pan for 45 minutes. I know you thought this through, but the shallower the pan, the quicker the freeze. Scrape with a fork and return to freezer. Repeat this process every 30 minutes until frozen through (at this point you can cover your granita and save it for up to a week).
Transfer half the granita to a glass and pour a shot of whiskey over it. I used an awesome honey whiskey for this one, but you can use any kind that makes your tastebuds dance. Garnish with mint or other fresh herb. I used borage flowers for this one, they have a sweet, slightly cucumber-y taste.
